A geothermal heat pump system is a central heating and/or air conditioning system that actively pumps heat to or from the shallow ground. It uses the earth as either a source of heat in the winter, or as a coolant in the summer. This design takes advantage of moderate temperatures in the shallow ground to boost efficiency and reduce operational costs.
For nearly 10 years, AJ Shea Construction has installed geothermal heat pumps in both new construction and renovations, and has employed the use of wells on the property, as well as loops in a pond as a source of the geoexchange. Summertime operation of these systems pumps heat from the home into the domestic hot water heater, greatly reducing energy costs.
There are a number of financial incentives for geothermal systems, including Connecticut tax exemptions, electric rebates, and federal tax credits. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities of geothermal in your next project.

Environmentally responsible construction methods and "green" materials are a part of everything we do. AJ Shea Construction incorporates guidelines from the US Green Building Council to provide LEED certification for homes.
AJ Shea Construction was the contractor for a home that received an Honorable Mention in the 2000 AIA Connecticut Design Awards.
