This showcase project in Hadlyme was begun in September 2003, and completed the following Summer.
The existing house was renovated with contemporary exterior details, windows, and upgrades to much of the interior living space.
The great room features an exterior overhang of clear cedar, and new windows that overlook the terrace and bronze reflecting pool. Bluestone was used for the fireplace surround and bench caps, and the staircase has continuous vertical maple supports that engage the stair risers and handrail.
Overlooking the courtyard, the master bathroom features a floor of Vermont slate, and a custom closet of vertical grain Douglas fir with barn hardware. The master bath uses bluestone for the counter, and has a Japanese soaking tub.
Other features include custom cabinetry in the living room, a soapstone countertop in the kitchen.
The unfinished garage was altered to provide a private guest area with a full bathroom and large bedroom featuring heat and air conditioning from the main house
Substantial systems improvements were made, including radiant floor heating on the lower level, a new septic system, and the addition of a generator and transfer switch.
Outdoor features include a new pool with special black plaster, an exterior shower area, a new stone chimney with stone cap, and extensive stone retaining walls.
